Sunrise, Minor International To Launch 50 New Hotels In Egypt

October 5, 2025

Egypt’s tourism and hospitality sector is entering a new phase of expansion as Sunrise Hotels and Resorts Group signed a landmark partnership with Minor International Hospitality Group, one of the world’s largest hotel operators, to develop and manage 50 new hotels across the country.

The agreement — witnessed by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy, Hossam El Shaer, Chairman of Sunrise Hotels and Resorts Group, and William E. Heinecke, Chairman of Minor International Hospitality Group — reflects the government’s intensified efforts to attract investment and expand hotel capacity in support of Egypt’s tourism growth strategy.

“We are working to increase the number of hotel rooms in partnership with the national and global private sector, amid intensive efforts to strengthen the factors supporting the attraction of tourism movement,” said Prime Minister Madbouly during the signing ceremony, as per a statement in October.

Expansion across prime destinations

The partnership’s first phase will include four new landmark properties developed with Madar Real Estate Development Company — in Azha Ras El Hekma, Kanz New Zayed, and two hotels in Azha Ain Sokhna.

Minor International, which operates over 640 hotels in 59 countries under leading brands such as Anantara, manages more than 80,000 rooms and 3,000 restaurants globally. Meanwhile, Sunrise Hotels and Resorts Group operates more than 25 hotels and resorts in key destinations including Sharm El-Sheikh, Hurghada, and Ain Sokhna, along with seven floating Nile hotels.

Driving Egypt’s 2030 tourism vision

The agreement supports Egypt’s goal to attract 30 million tourists annually and generate $30 billion in tourism revenues by 2030. Madbouly emphasized that tourism remains a national priority, with public and private partnerships driving efforts to expand infrastructure and improve service standards.

“Tourism investment represents an important axis within the work priorities of the Egyptian state during the current and coming periods,” Madbouly added.

IHG expands presence in Egypt

Adding to the sector’s momentum, IHG Hotels & Resorts signed a management agreement with Jadeer Group for a new Hotel Indigo in New Cairo. Scheduled to open in 2031, the 120-room property will be part of the Red (G) mixed-use development.

“Egypt is a priority market for IHG, and we are excited to partner with Jadeer Group for a new Hotel Indigo in New Cairo,” said Haitham Mattar, Managing Director, India, Middle East & Africa, IHG Hotels & Resorts. “The area is rapidly emerging as a hub for business, education, and lifestyle, making it an ideal location for a brand that celebrates uniqueness and thrives in culture and design-rich neighborhoods.”

Real estate meets hospitality

In another development, Wealth Holding signed a strategic agreement with Retaj International Hotels & Hospitality to manage the Jeval Business Complex in the New Administrative Capital.

Sohair Koriem, Chairperson of Wealth Holding, said the project reflects “a growing trend in combining real estate with hotel services,” aiming to attract both domestic and international investors. Sheikh Nayef Bin Eid Al Thani, Chairperson of Retaj Group, added that the New Administrative Capital is emerging as “a strategic platform for regional tourism and investment.”

Iconic redevelopments and new openings

U Hotels Management and Tourism Development inaugurated XU San Stefano, a luxury beachfront property in Alexandria, featuring 40 suites and plans for a 50% capacity expansion within six months, according to Ehab El Gendy, Chairperson of U Tourism Development.

Meanwhile, Cairo House Egypt, in partnership with Tourism Investment S.A.E and Marriott International, will transform the Tahrir Complex (Mogamma El-Tahrir) into a luxury Autograph Collection Hotel, part of the Sovereign Fund of Egypt’s downtown revitalization initiative.

From Cairo’s skyline to the Red Sea coast, Egypt’s hospitality industry is seeing record foreign and local investment. The Sunrise–Minor International partnership — with its 50-hotel expansion plan — represents one of the largest initiatives to date, reinforcing Egypt’s position as a fast-growing tourism and investment hub in the Middle East and Africa.
