Sofitel To Open Its Fourth Hotel In Egypt

November 6, 2024

Accor, a global leader in hospitality, has announced the rebranding of Conrad as Sofitel Cairo Downtown Nile, the fourth Sofitel in Egypt, a company statement showed on November 4.

Sofitel Cairo Downtown Nile

The new hotel, located in Cairo’s downtown Nile-front district, is set to begin operations in January 2025. Its prime location, surrounded by major cultural landmarks such as the Grand Egyptian Museum and the Giza Pyramids, is expected to attract a large number of guests.

The Sofitel Cairo Downtown Nile encompasses 615 rooms and suites designed to offer panoramic views of the Nile. In addition, the hotel has four dining venues offering international and local cuisine.

With its prime location along the Nile and proximity to some of Cairo’s most iconic cultural landmarks, Sofitel Cairo Downtown Nile will offer guests a unique blend of French luxury and Egyptian heritage, according to Mehdi Morad, Vice President of Operations for Africa, Mauritius, Reunion & Seychelles at Sofitel Legend, Sofitel, MGallery, and Emblems.

The hotel also features a full-service wellness center, complete with a spa, pool, fitness facilities, and dedicated clubs for kids and teens. Additionally, it offers 2,000 square meters of event space.

The rebranding project will be managed in collaboration with the International Company for Touristic Investments (I.C.T.I.), leveraging its financial strength and market expertise to ensure the long-term success of Sofitel Cairo Nile. This partnership reflects a shared vision to elevate Cairo’s luxury hospitality scene, combining I.C.T.I.’s local expertise with Sofitel’s globally renowned French art de vivre.

The French hospitality hotel will join other Sofitel locations in Egypt including Sofitel El Gezirah, Sofitel Luxor Winter Palace, and Sofitel Legend Old Cataract in Aswan.

Upcoming hotel developments

In July, Marriott International Inc. and Reliance Ventures S.A.E, the hospitality investment arm of Reliance Egypt, signed an agreement to open a Moxy Hotel in Downtown Cairo.

The new Moxy Cairo Downtown hotel is part of an adaptive reuse project for the Lazoghly complex, which previously housed the Ministry of Interior’s offices. This complex is being transformed to include hotel accommodations, office and co-working spaces, retail outlets, restaurants, and edutainment facilities. The Moxy Cairo Downtown is expected to open in 2029.

Notably, Egypt is targeting building 200,000-250,000 new hotel rooms as part of its target to attract 30 million tourists by 2028, according to Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly in August.

In line with that, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Sherif El-Sherbiny announced new investment opportunities in the hospitality sector in New Alamein City and other Egyptian cities. He highlighted 10 opportunities in New Alamein that could add 9,000 hotel rooms. Additionally, two opportunities in New Damietta City could add 2,200 hotel rooms, one project in the west of Port Said City could add 1,200 hotel rooms, and another in New Aswan could add 1,200 hotel rooms.
