In a significant stride towards bolstering its digital infrastructure, Egypt unveiled its inaugural Government Data and Cloud Computing Center (P1) situated on Ain Sokhna Road. The center, sprawling across approximately 23,500 square meters, with 10,000 square meters earmarked for immediate construction and ample space allotted for future expansions, aims to revolutionize the country’s digital landscape.

At the heart of this initiative lies a commitment to providing essential services to Egyptian citizens, aligning seamlessly with Egypt’s overarching Digital Strategy, which centers on facilitating citizen services, empowering youth for global competitiveness, and fostering innovation within the nation.

The inauguration ceremony, graced by Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, underscored the pivotal role the center is poised to play. Minister Talaat emphasized the core objectives of Egypt’s Digital Strategy: digital transformation, capacity building, and support for digital innovation. These objectives serve as the driving force behind the integration of cutting-edge technologies, such as AI-powered solutions and big data analytics, into the government sector.

Furthermore, Egypt’s strides in digital transformation have been remarkable. The completion of the Egyptian information infrastructure in 2020, interlinking numerous government databases, and the launch of the Egypt Digital Platform in 2022 are testament to the nation’s commitment to modernization. The platform, offering an expanding array of government services, has garnered significant uptake, with millions of citizens registering and millions of requests processed.

Moreover, Egypt’s investments in digital infrastructure have yielded impressive results, with the average fixed-line internet speed multiplied by eleven times since 2018. Egypt has also emerged as a leader in Africa regarding fixed-line internet speed and has made substantial strides in enhancing its mobile network infrastructure.

In addition to tangible advancements in connectivity, Egypt has made significant strides in AI readiness, ascending 50 places in the government readiness index. These achievements underscore the robust growth of Egypt’s ICT sector, which has become the fastest-growing sector in the Egyptian economy, with exports witnessing a remarkable surge.
