Egypt has remained resilient despite the economic blow COVID-19 has brought on the global economy. The country has continued to push through with social and economic reforms, significant public spending levels and investments in national projects. As with other economies worldwide, COVID-19 has hit Egypt on many fronts, pushing down its growth prospects over the short term. Nevertheless, the economy is performing substantially better than regional and emerging peers given solid macroeconomic fundamentals and the government’s timely economic response to the pandemic.
